 Jeannine Evans - Junior Varsity Coach
Jeannine Ponton Evans was a stand-out lacrosse athlete at St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, Md. where she played for three years. During her tenure as a St. Mary’s Saint she set an all-time scoring record, was selected for All-County First Team in 1983 and 1984 by The Capital Newspaper, All-County First Team in 1984 by The Baltimore Sun, and Prep Athlete of the Week in 1984 by The Evening Sun. She was honored to be inducted into the St. Mary’s High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.
Ms. Evans graduated from The University of Maryland in 1988. She has earned her Level One and Two Certifications of the US Lacrosse Coaches Education Program (US Lacrosse is the national governing body of men’s and women’s lacrosse). In addition, she attended two Positive Coaching Alliance training sessions, earning a Double-Goal Coach Certification (The Positive Coaching Alliance emphasis life lessons over winning on the field) and Lacrosse Officials Training to insure she understands the rules from an officiating viewpoint. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer and earned an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) designation in 2005.
Jeannine accepted the position of Junior Varsity (JV) coach with a first year JV Marvin Ridge High School team in 2009. As a coach she brought her love of the sport and emphasis on life lessons to a new team and led them to their first winning season, as well as creating relationships with players that continue long after the last game was played.
Coach Evans has a passion for keeping lacrosse competitive yet enjoyable and is looking forward to her first year at WeddingtonHigh School. She will strive to challenge the JV athletes to play to their peak ability, learn the skills and techniques of women’s lacrosse, work together as a team, and to learn how to improve as a team from each practice and game.
Rachel Hutchinson Andrea - Varsity Coach
Rachel grew up in Anne Arundel County, MD, a hotbed of lacrosse. She will be stepping up to the Head Coach position at WHS in the 2010 season, after having served as the JV Coach for Weddington in 2008 and 2009.
